The botanical display gives an overview of the various types of vegetation and the numerous indigenous plants in Namibia.
The contrast between the Namib and the Atlantic Ocean is depicted in large dioramas. Life-size exhibits of nocturnal animals such as the ant-eater and the porcupine are on display. The rare golden mole, insects, butterflies and the largest collection of birds' eggs in Namibia are further points of attraction.
The geological section has an excellent collection of minerals with superb specimens from the Tsumeb mine and the Namib, a meteorite, as well as fossils from all parts of Namibia.
An archaeological exhibition with interesting artifacts sheds light on the prehistory of Namibia.
An original ox-wagon, which was used on the route between Grootfontein and Angola is exhibited, emphasizing the importance of pioneer transport. Also on display is the carriage of the last German governor and a working model of a twin locomotive.
A large variety of cultural-historical exhibits from the Schutztruppe (German Imperial Colonial Troops), the Schmerenbeck room, Gerd Böhlke's Adler Pharmacy and Dr. Weber's dental practice depict the lifestyle of German colonial settlers.
A unique and very informative ethnographical exhibition "People of Namibia" focuses on the emergence of a modern Namibian nation against the traditional background of the various ethnic groups.
The spacious Rössing room - which is also used as a lecture room - shows in detail how uranium is mined. Bus tours to visit the Rössing Uranium Mine may be booked at the museum.
The museum shop also stocks a large variety of books, postcards and souvenirs.
